It's A Mess

We are taught to believe in love
We are taught to trust in love
We are taught the fairytale
Happily ever after happens
We have never been taught
That it hurts so much when it doesn’t work

It is a story as old as time itself
Boy meets girl; Girl likes boy
They converse and viola!
Hearts and flowers fill the air
Then the balloon bursts
The sadness starts

Accusations fly; questions unanswered
Jealousies and misunderstandings
Each blames the other
Or worse-only one takes the blame
You try to fix what is cracked
Only to see it shatter in pieces

You both look at the mess
Tears welling up in both your eyes
You both say just one more try
Two more tries and then finally three tries
You both realize it just won’t work
This only makes the pain worse

You both see the one you fell in love with
Yet you both cannot seem to make it work
You both believe but now you know
Happily ever after may not be it for you both
That it hurts so much when it doesn’t work
Something we were never taught
